Additional Deer (RG & RRG) License Must Be Purchased

  Before November 21 Buck Season

Hunters are reminded that the additional deer gun license (Class RG-Resident Gun or RRG-Nonresident Gun) for taking an additional deer during the bucks-only, antlerless or muzzleloader deer seasons must be purchased prior to November 21, according to Curtis I. Taylor, Chief of the Wildlife Resources Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.

During a calendar year a hunter may purchase only one Class RG or Class RRG license for taking a second deer with a firearm. A hunter may begin hunting an additional deer with the Class RG or Class RRG license the day after legally checking the first deer in that season. Hunters must possess either a Class A, A-L , AB -L, X, XJ, E, XXJ or free license. Resident landowners or their resident children or their resident parents are not required to purchase the Class RG license when hunting on their own land.

The Class RG and RRG license may be used for taking a second buck during the bucks-only firearm deer season in counties open to bucks-only gun hunting. In addition, an unused Class RG or Class RRG license can be used to harvest a second antlerless deer during the antlerless deer season or a second deer of either sex during the muzzleloading deer season in one of the following 25 counties or parts thereof: Berkeley, Brooke, Doddridge, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Lewis, Marion, Marshall, Mason, Mineral, Monongalia, Morgan, Ohio, Pleasants, Putnam, Ritchie, Taylor, Tyler, Wetzel, Wirt and Wood.

The privilege to use an unfilled RG or RRG license for an additional deer in the antlerless or muzzleloader seasons does not apply to Amherst/Plymouth, Beech Fork, Big Ugly, Bluestone, Burnsville, Chief Cornstalk, Cross Creek, East Lynn, Elk River, Handley, Hillcrest, Lewis Wetzel, Stonecoal, Stonewall Jackson, Summersville, Wallback and Morris Creek Wildlife Management Areas, as well as Barbour, Boone, Braxton, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Fayette, Gilmer, Grant, Greenbrier, Kanawha, Lincoln, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph, Raleigh, Roane, Summers, Tucker, Upshur, Wayne and Webster counties.

For complete information hunters should consult the 2005-2006 West Virginia Hunting and Trapping Regulations Summary available at any DNR office, license agents, or by visiting the DNR Web site at www.wvdnr.gov .
