Photography Workshop at Tygart Lake State Park, June 6 – 8

            Tygart Lake State Park is hosting a photography workshop featuring instructors Steve Shaluta and Steve Rotsch from Friday, June 6, through Sunday, June 8.

  • Steve Shaluta has been a professional photographer for more than 20 years with a thriving freelance career, as owner of Steve Shaluta Photography, and as a tourism photographer for the State of West Virginia.
  • Steve Rotsch has more than 30 years experience as a professional photographer. He has owned Positive Image Photography since 1975, worked at several newspapers, a wire service and as the personal photographer of three West Virginia governors.

            Workshop attendees should bring their digital or film SLR photography gear, a laptop with any version of Photoshop (optional) and five of their best digitized photographs. The instructors use both Nikon and Canon equipment and will be able to talk intimately about both systems.

            Intermediate, advanced and professional photographers will participate in an interactive classroom experience, which includes Photoshop techniques, camera etiquette, composition and printing. Other topics may include file management and image storage options, such as, adding file info and Meta data to image files. The workshop will heavily favor digital photographers.

  • Friday evening, June 6, will be a meet and greet affair from 7-9 p.m., where discussions between the instructors and participants will fine-tune the agenda of the Saturday session.
  • Saturday morning will be reserved for classroom instruction.  Topics will be wide ranging and fluid to accommodate the participants’ specific interests.
  • A photography field trip is planned on Saturday afternoon.
  • Saturday night will be an informal gathering to talk about the field trip.
  • The highlight of the weekend will be a slide show of the participants’ best images and a critique of the participants’ photographs on Sunday morning.

            The Photography Workshop is $258.57 for the weekend for single occupancy; for two individuals sharing a room it is $391.56. This package include two nights’ lodging at Tygart Lodge, three meals on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday, snacks and refreshments, and workshop instruction and classes.

            Tygart Lake State Park is located near Grafton in Taylor County.  Known for its boating and fishing, the park features a 20-room lodge include wireless service, cabins, restaurant and marina.  The area topography offers photographic diversity for participants.  For more information or to reserve workshop space, call Tygart Lake State Park at 304-265-6144.
