Canaan Valley Resort Celebrates 40 Years of Golf May 31 Event for American Cancer Society

Davis, W.Va. – Golfers can enjoy a two-for-one day on the links at Canaan Valley Resort for the 40th anniversary celebration of the resort state park’s golf course Saturday, May 31.  In addition to playing the nationally recognized Geoffrey Cornish-designed course, proceeds from the event will go to the American Cancer Society.

“Canaan Valley Resort is the third golf course to open in the West Virginia State Park System and is the system’s first 18-hole course to open,” said Troy Cardwell, General Manager of Canaan Valley Resort.  “Canaan Valley Resort is excited to celebrate 40 years of great golf with a special event that will support the American Cancer Society in its worldwide movement to end cancer. We’ll have a special area of recognition on the golf course where commemorative flags will honor cancer survivors or serve as reminders of those who have died. All proceeds from the flags will be presented to the American Cancer Society.”

The anniversary celebration kicks off with golf tee times that begin at 7:30 a.m. and continue during the day. Golfers will play at their own pace, have the opportunity to participate in contests and activities, and will conclude the day with awards, an outdoor cookout and live entertainment.

The $99 entry fee includes green fees, cart rentals, a commemorative flag, prizes, an evening reception and cookout and a donation to the American Cancer Society. Proximity prizes will include a new car for a Hole-N-One, golf bags, putters, drivers and other prizes. Golfers are invited to enter a 50/50 putting contest at the practice green at 4:30 p.m. The putting contest is $20 per entrant, with half of those proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Saturday golfers are eligible for a discounted green fee and shared cart rate of $40 on Sunday. A special lodging rate is available for Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31.

The Canaan Valley Resort golf course, located in Tucker County and minutes from Blackwater Falls State Park earned four stars from Golf Digest Magazine. Along with its spectacular mountain views, the course features meticulously groomed fairways, 65 sand bunkers, water hazards and lush greens that are friendly to beginner golfers while challenging to experienced golfers
