Heiner Hertling art seminar at North Bend State Park Sept. 5-8

            CAIRO, W.Va. –Heiner Hertling, a talented multi-media artist and sculptor, will be presenting four days of art instruction at North Bend State Park September 5-8, 2012.  “His discipline and craftsmanship, plus his enthusiastic, lighthearted nature, make him a nationally known teacher and mentor. His television series, ‘Your Brush with Nature,’ a plein air painting show, has given him a stage to share his knowledge internationally,” said Kitty Gorrell, seminar organizer.

            Hertling’s seminar at North Bend Park is part of an annual Homecoming Hues event held by Gorrell at North Bend State Park. The seminar presents the opportunity for this nationally known artist to share the elements and techniques of painting on location to students of all skill levels. 

            North Bend State Park is near Cairo and is the host site for the Homecoming Hues four-day workshop. About Heiner Hertling, artist

Heiner Hertling            Hertling embraces the visual arts in many different forms, be it colorful oil paintings, sensitive watercolors or pastels, monumental bronze or wood sculptures and even jewelry.  A native of Germany, he completed an apprenticeship in a graphic studio in Hamburg and come to the U.S. as a commercial artist. His transition from illustrator to plein air art has yielded national art awards for his colorful impressionistic paintings and intricate detailed realism.

            He is a  a member of the Society of Animal Artists, invitations to the Birds in Art Exhibition in Wisconsin by Gorrell and founder of Michigan Plein Air Painters, and numerous other honors. What is plein air painting?

            According to askart.com, plein air, a French word, literally translates as ”'open air” and is defined as painting or drawing done outside, in the open air. The equivalent term in Italian would be alfresco. These works were taken directly from nature and infused with a feeling of the open air.
