Kanawha State Forest’s “Quiet Celebration” Walk is September 21 Participants who help celebrate forest’s 75th anniversary get commemorative pin

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Kanawha State Forest in Charleston turns 75 years old on Friday, September 21, and forest staff is inviting visitors to participate in a “Quiet Celebration.” To celebrate, visitors to the forest are asked to walk for one-half hour (or more) between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

“There is no specific trail or distance that a person needs to walk,” said Kevin Dials, assistant superintendent.  “The celebration is simply asking people to visit the forest for at least a half hour and walk somewhere and to be active outdoors.”

West Virginia’s state park system is a partner with ActiveWV, a statewide physical activity initiative, and assists in providing outdoor exercise opportunities.

After taking a 30 minute walk on September 21, visitors may stop by the forest office between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to register and receive a commemorative 75th anniversary lapel pin. There is no designated trail or pace. Walking time is on the honor system. There is no charge to participate.
