Become an Island Volunteer: Blennerhassett State Park Requests Your Assistance
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. – Volunteering at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park can be a fun and rewarding experience. Working on the island during the spring, summer and into fall or at the Regional History Museum that is open year-round offers a unique experience for volunteers to learn about history and meet to people from all over the world.
The Friends of Blennerhassett is holding an information session for prospective volunteers at the Blennerhassett Museum on Saturday, March 9 from 11 a.m. until noon. Please call the park office at 304-420-4800 to register for this get-together to find out more about becoming a Blennerhassett volunteer.
Blennerhassett Island is open May through October. The mainland museum, however, is a year-round facility. “We’re preparing for the upcoming island season and always interested in bringing new volunteers to join our team,” said Pam Salisbury, event coordinator at Blennerhassett Island.
The Friends of Blennerhassett look for individuals who enjoy meeting people and as well as lead guided tours through the Blennerhassett mansion, work in two gift shops, serve as guests hosts at “Maple Shade” (the island’s Putnam-Houser house), serve as island greeters, and also drive the golf cart. Volunteers also are needed to assist with special events on the island and museum.
Free parking is available in the lots adjacent to the Blennerhassett Museum. Light refreshments will be served. The Museum is located at 137 Juliana Street (the corner of 2nd and Juliana streets) in downtown Parkersburg, W.Va.
