Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park welcomes Emily Campbell, 2013 American Honey Princess
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. – Emily Campbell, the 2013 American Honey Princess, will be in Parkersburg speaking for the West Virginia Honey Festival this weekend. Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park will be hosting Emily at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23. Emily will speak to guests about the importance of honeybees to West Virginia agriculture and how the demographics of beekeeping are more diverse than ever. She will also discuss the versatility of honey and its various uses.
Emily is the 19-year-old daughter of Becky Zenke of Aitkin, Minn., and of Erich Campbell of Holton, Kan. She is a freshman at the University of Minnesota-Crookston, where she is pursuing a degree in large animal veterinary medicine. Emily is a first-generation beekeeper and keeps bees as a hobby.
Emily will speak to visitors at the Rotary Shelter on Blennerhassett Island at 1:30 p.m. The only cost is for the boat ticket to the island, which is $9 adults and $7 for children ages 3-12. Boat rides to the island are at the top of each hour, beginning at 11 a.m. Friday.
