Blennerhassett Island State Park Offers Dinner Cruise, Brunch with Margaret, and “Bugs, Bugs, Bugs” Sept. 6-7, 2013

            PARKERSBURG, W.Va. – Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park in Parkersburg welcomes the fall with two days of entertainment, food and nature adventures for all ages September 6 and 7, 2013. Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park Presents Dinner Cruise in Conjunction with Point Park Music Series, September 6, 2013

        Fun and adventure in early autumn is a dinner and a boat ride to Blennerhassett Island.  Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park is offering a dinner and cruise on the Friday, September 6, 2013.

            Purchase your ticket and board the Island Belle sternwheeler for a country-style dinner and boat ride on the Ohio River. The boat departs Point Park in downtown Parkersburg at 6 p.m. and returns to Point Park at 7:30 p.m. The Point Park Music Series concert, “Who’s Bad — A Tribute to Michael Jackson,” presented by Downtown PKB, completes the evening.   For information about the Point Park Concert Series visit: downtownPKB.com

            The ticket cost (includes river cruise & dinner) is $25 for adults and $20 for children ages 3-12. The dinner menu offers a choice of one entrée (baked steak or pan fried chicken), with country-style green beans, baked potato, house salad, roll w/butter, dessert, and bottled water or soft drink (vegetarian menu available upon request).  Seating is limited and advance reservations are required. Blennerhassett Island Brunch with Margaret Blennerhassett, September 7, 2013

            Enjoy a morning cruise to Blennerhassett Island hosted by Margaret Blennerhassett on Saturday, September 7, 2013.  Margaret will provide a glimpse into the 18th-century frontier life she and Harman experienced while living on Blennerhassett Island. She will share intriguing stories about Aaron Burr, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Margaret’s love of entertaining makes her a sparkling hostess for your day. Margaret is portrayed by actress/historian Debra Conner.

            The boat will depart for the island from Point Park in downtown Parkersburg at 10 a.m.  The cost of the Brunch with Margaret is $39.95 per person. The price of the ticket includes the round-trip sternwheeler ride, a guided tour of the Blennerhassett mansion, brunch and program by Margaret, a narrated wagon ride tour, and a self-guided tour of the Blennerhassett Museum.  Space is limited and advance reservations are required. Future Brunch with Margaret dates include September 12 and October 3.

 “Nature Nuts” Present “Bugs, Bugs, Bugs” on Blennerhassett Island, September 7, 2013

            “Bugs, Bugs, Bugs” are busy, busy, busy pretty much anywhere you roam. Learn more about them and explore the world of bugs and insects and their homes on Saturday, September 7, 2013 on Blennerhassett Island. Participants will learn to identify the various insects observed along the walk.

            Emily Grafton, a Master Naturalist, will be joined by colleagues who have provided interpretative walks and workshops on the island in 2013. The series, titled First Saturdays, are scheduled again in 2014.

            Anyone can attend the nature walk. The program is geared for all age groups and will be a fun time of educational walking. The only cost is the boat ride to the island, which is $9 for adults and $7 for children ages 3 -12.  Boat tickets can only be purchased at the Blennerhassett Museum located at 2nd and Juliana streets.  Please plan to take the 1 p.m. boat to the island in order to join in the fun. The walk takes about an hour and a half.
