Slopes Open at Canaan Valley State Park Dec. 7, 2013

DAVIS, W.Va. - The main ski area opens Dec. 7 at Canaan Valley State Park near Davis in Tucker County. “It’s great to have skiing available in early December,” said Lenora Testerman, editor of the Bear Tracks Newsletter, a weekly publication for resort guests and amenities information found at the ski resort.

Ski area hours for Dec. 7–25 are:  lift operations from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Ticket office, ski equipment rentals and Ski School hours are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Canaan Valley Resort offers ski school for individuals, groups or children. Canaan Cub Club is for youth ages 5-8. Mountain Adventure is a more advanced school that caters to youth ages 9-15.

The new 160-room Canaan Lodge is open with amazing views from the hotel rooms that overlook the valley. The Hickory Dining Room with its central fireplace is open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily. The park features Christmas Holiday and New Year’s Eve overnight packages for families or couples. Packages include skiing options.

J.R. Nolan is the Canaan Valley Ski School Director for the 2014 ski season. Nolan, with 33 years of experience, is a PSIA Level 3 1983 Instructor and USSA Alpine Coach, Refree, Official and Master Competitor. “Skiing isn't just about doing drills and exercises. It is about incorporating the correct movements into your everyday skiing and your everyday technique. From the beginner to the advanced skier, the movements required to ski are the foundation of what the Canaan Valley Ski School is all about,” said Nolan.

Special ski promotions are available for discount lift and rental options throughout the season. Visit CanaanResort.com, promotions page, for the latest offers including Food Bank Mondays, Military Discounts and Snowbuster Deals. Lift tickets and rentals may also be purchased through Online Ticket Sales three to five days prior to arrival.

The four-season resort is near Blackwater Falls State Park. The two state parks are valued destinations for winter sports enthusiasts. Both parks offer lodges and vacation cabins, with new ones open at Blackwater Falls. The Canaan Valley tubing park is scheduled to open later in December as winter temperature permit adequate snowmaking. To learn more about Canaan Valley visit canaanresort.com or call 304-866-4121.
