Major Snow Equals Maximum Fun at Canaan Valley State Park

DAVIS, W.Va. - With more than 13 inches of new snow at Canaan Valley this week, the fresh powder conditions are optimal for downhill skiing. The total snow fall in the valley this winter is about 76.5 inches and growing. The current snow base on the slopes ranges from 16-30 inches. The resort continues to make snow to compliment nature's snowfall.

"Thirty-nine trails are open of the 43 trails available at Canaan Valley Resort State Park and additional trails will open as weather conditions improve sope conditions," said Dave Vance with mountain operations at Canaan Valley.

Canaan Valley ski slopes have a vertical drop of 850 feet with three lifts and two magic carpet transports. The 1,200-foot, eight-lane snow tubing park is open. "That's four football fields long from top to bottom at the tubing park," said Vance. "It's a great ride."

Access from the bottom to the tubing runs is by a "magic carpet" that moves people and tubes up the mountain. Tubing session are two hours. Canaan's cross-country skiing areas offer 30km trails. The ice skating rink has opened for the winter season and is open daily. The ice rink is located near the new Canaan Valley Lodge. Snowshoeing is trending and rentals are available. Horse drawn sleigh rides are open and located at the tube park Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ski rentals and lift passes, as well as snowboard rentals, are all located at the Canaan Valley Ski Area.

Canaan Valley State Park is located in Tucker County and near Blackwater Falls State Park.  Both parks feature lodges, restaurants, cabins and winter outdoor recreation facilities as well as indoor swimming pools.  Learn more about Canaan Valley State Park at www.canaanresort.com or call 304-866-4121.  For information about the Canaan area, visit skithevalley.com.
