Cacapon State Park tees up with US Kids Golf

BERKELEY SPRINGS, West Virginia – Cacapon Resort State Park has partnered with the PGA's US Kids Golf initiative in 2014. To promote its PGA Family Course program, Cacapon is offering a junior golfer rate every day. Youth players under the age of 18 get a 50 percent off greens fee if playing with an adult paying the full greens fee.

"It's a program that encourages families and youth to try the game of golf," said Cacapon Assistant Superintendent David Pruitt. "We're taking an active role to promote golf as outdoor recreation and a lifetime activity."

The PGA Family Course program is a nationwide golf initiative. It offers a beginner-friendly short course within any existing golf facility, encourages parents and children to play golf together, makes golf more enjoyable for players new to the game, enables players of varying abilities to shoot similar scores, and provides a simple transition as each player's ability increases.

At Cacapon, attractive medallions are installed on the Robert Trent Jones-designed course designating beginner points associated with the PGA Family Course program.

"We know beginners may create slower play on the course, and we also know a true golfer remembers learning the game and the patience someone extended to him or her," Pruitt said. "Experienced golfers are needed to promote and encourage golf play at an early age."

Cacapon State Park also offers a season pass that includes unlimited play at the home course, plus two rounds of greens fees at other state park courses. Season pass holders receive a Passport to Fun booklet that adds more value to the golf season pass purchases
