Fred E. Brooks Memorial Arboretum Tour at Watoga State Park on June 7

POCAHONTAS COUNTY, West Virginia -- It's National Trails Day on June 7.  To celebrate the occasion, Watoga State Park has planned a guided hike that begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Arboretum parking lot and will conclude around 2:00 p.m.   The hike is a 4 1/2 mile loop around the Arboretum.  "It's a guided discovery on the left side trail of Honey Bee and back down Dragon Draft," says naturalist Cheryle Boggs. "We'll hike and stop to explore along the trails."

Hike leaders are Kelly Smith, assistant superintendent at Watoga State Park and Cheryle Boggs, park naturalist.  Attendees are urged to wear good walking or hiking shoes and to bring water. There is no charge to participate.

Individuals hiking on a guided activity or on their own on National Trails Day are encouraged to log hiked miles to receive a certificate and patch that shows their support for outdoor recreational pursuits.  Logged miles must be hiked in a state park or state forest to receive the state park achievement. Log cards are online at www.wvstateparks.com.

Watoga State Park is located near Marlinton, W.Va. in Pocahontas County.  Other state parks in the area include: Beartown, Droop Mountain Battlefield, Cass Scenic Railroad and Seneca State Forest.  Call Watoga at 304-799-4087 for hike, cabin and camping information and summer activity information.
