Celebrate the 45th year of skiing at Canaan Valley Resort State Park

DAVIS, W.Va. – Canaan Valley Resort State Park’s Ski Area is now open for the season and celebrating its45th anniversary year.

“For 45 years, we have provided both residents and visitors alike with a one-of-a-kind recreational experience, and we are already looking forward to another successful season this year,” said Steve Drumheller, general manager of Canaan Valley Resort. “Early-season blasts of cold air are allowing us to fire up our new snowmaking equipment early to give our guests the winter experience they have come to know and love.”

Lift tickets can be purchased online or at the ski area. The resort also offers accommodations in its 160 room lodge. The resort provides transportation between the lodge and ski area.

To reserve accommodations, visit www.canaanresort.com or call 1-800-622-4121.

New outdoor enhancements for winter recreation in 2016-2017

  • Snowmaking capacity will be doubled because of the addition of snow guns and compressors, an additional 7-million-gallon water storage compound and pumping equipment.
  • New skis and snowboards have been purchased and will be available in the rental shop.
  • The ski area will feature a new “out-of-bounds” cross country ski trail located on the back side of the hill. Cross country skiers will be able to purchase a one-way ticket to ride the lift to access the Bald Knob area and to ski park trails and open areas.
  • The resort has ice skates and cross country ski rental equipment.
  • This year’s enhancements follow the opening of glade skiing areas in 2015, an addition that has proven to be exceptionally popular with the many experienced skiers who visit the resort.

About Canaan Valley Resort State Park

Canaan Valley Resort Ski Area is a popular destination among skiers of all abilities based in Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Midwest locations.

Canaan Valley Resort is located in north central West Virginia, approximately three hours from Pittsburgh, 2½ hours from Washington, D.C. and 2¾ hours from Charleston, West Virginia. Canaan Valley Resort State Park and Blackwater Falls State Park are located in Tucker County near Davis and Thomas, West Virginia.
