Presentation featuring Railroads of Ritchie County scheduled at North Bend State Park, Jan. 22, 2017

CAIRO, W.Va. – Railroad history buffs and train enthusiasts are invited to a special presentation about “The Railroads of Ritchie County” Jan. 22 at North Bend State Park. David Scott, president of the Ritchie County Historical Society, will be the lecturer about these railroad lines at 2 p.m. at North Bend State Park Lodge. The program is open to the public at no charge.

Eight different railroads once crisscrossed Ritchie County: the Northwestern Virginia Railroad and Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) in the late 1850s through the Harrisville Southern, circa 1915. These railroads provided development and transportation needs. Photos of six of the eight railroads will be included in the program and Scott welcomes photo contributions to be added to Ritchie County’s rich train-related history.

A miniature circus with operating model trains, including the narrow gauge, will be displayed by Cal and Sharon Malcom at the lodge from 1 to 4 p.m. The North Bend Dining Room is open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. with Sunday buffet available from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. North Bend State Park is open year round.
