Pure Cross Country 5K Inaugural Run at Cacapon State Park June 3, 2017

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — To celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 3, Cacapon Resort State Park will host the inaugural Pure Cross Country 5k Run on the park’s newly designed cross-country trail.

“We’ve developed a true off-road cross-country course that uses four trails within the park to provide participants with spectacular views among the hills of West Virginia,” said Naturalist and Activities Coordinator Renee Fincham. “This will be the official course used by our Berkeley Springs schools’ cross-country teams as well as park visitors. Park employees and foundation members are honored to provide this outdoor venue for area youth and anyone who runs cross-country for leisure or sport.”

The Cacapon Resort State Park Foundation is hosting the all-ages race, which will start and finish at the park lodge. Arrangements for parking and guest services will be provided by the park and the park foundation. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers. Age categories are 10 and younger, 11-14, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and older. Race fees for each participant range from $20-$30, depending upon the date of registration. Cacapon State Park Foundation will use all entry fees to fund future maintenance costs of the 5K course.

Early arrivals on Friday, June 2, may pick up the Pure Cross County 5K pre-packet from 5:45-6:30 p.m. A Welcome Walk will start at 6:30 p.m. for anyone wanting to become familiar with the course. On Saturday, registration will open at 7:45 a.m., the opening ceremony will start at 8:30 a.m., and awards will be presented at 11 a.m.

Racers may register online at www.active.com/berkeley-springs-wv/running/races/inaugural or download the flier at www.cacaponresort.com/PureCC5K.pdf and register at the park.

Cacapon Resort State Park is located minutes off Route 522 near Berkeley Springs in Morgan County. The traditional lodge vacation cabins are comfortable accommodations at the base of Cacapon Mountain. A Robert Trent Jones golf course, riding stables and lake swimming are featured attractions. The park celebrates its 80th year in 2017.

National Trails Day, a nationwide activity promoted by the American Hiking Society, is held annually on the first Saturday in June. The race at Cacapon State Park is one of many organized events at West Virginia’s state parks.
