Grant County
New Creek Dam 14

  Lake  New Creek Dam 14

  Acres  40

Directions  New Creek Lake, also called Dam No. 14, is a 40-acre impoundment located in Grant County, just off WV Route 93, about 9 miles south of New Creek and 6 miles north of Scherr.

Description  This lake was constructed in 1963 with a maximum depth of 60 feet and an average depth of 34 feet. Since the lake serves as a water supply, water level often drops 5-10 feet in late summer and fall. Boating, camping, and use of live minnows as bait are prohibited.

Fishery  New Creek Lake is stocked with trout once in February, bi-weekly March through May, and twice in October. The warmwater fishery consists of channel catfish, largemouth bass, and sunfish. An abundant crayfish population produces large channel catfish, with catfish in excess of 5 pounds reported. Alewives, a shad-like fish, have become established in New Creek Lake from a stocking in 1965 and are providing food for both brown trout and largemouth bass. Dissolved oxygen concentrations and temperatures of the water during summer make this lake one of the better impoundments for holding trout through the summer. Suspending natural baits just off the bottom in 10-15 feet of water is a favorite method of catching trout during summer.
