Directions |
Rock Cliff Lake is a 17-acre impoundment located on the Trout Pond Recreation Area of the George Washington National Forest in Hardy County, 6 miles east of Lost River and 13 miles southwest of Wardensville. It is accessible from Lost River by County Route 259/51, from Wardensville via County Route 23/10, County Route 259/51, and U. S. Forest Service Route 500.

Description |
The lake was built in 1969 with a maximum depth of 36 feet and an average depth of 12 feet. A gravel boat ramp, flush toilets, bathhouse facilities, drinking water, swimming beach, 40 combination trailer and tent camping areas, and 10 tent pads are available. A trail surrounding the entire lake provides bank fishing access. Walk-in fishing is available all year over a ½ mile trail and the area is opened to drive-in fishing from April 15 to December 7. Electric motors only are allowed and the use of live minnows as bait is prohibited. Night fishing is only allowed for registered campers. Camping is available May 8 to December 7 and the swimming beach is open May 22 to September 7.

Fishery |
Rock Cliff Lake primarily provides spring, fall, and winter fishing for stocked trout, with a limited warmwater fishery for sunfish, rock bass, largemouth bass, and channel catfish. Trout are stocked just prior to April 15, bi-weekly through May, and twice in October. Fish attractors (logs and brush) have been placed in the lake and their locations are designated with signs on shore.
