Berwind Lake is a 20-acre impoundment located south of War in McDowell County. The lake is part of the Berwind Lake Wildlife Management Area and is accessible from War by County Route 12/4.

Description |
This impoundment was built in the late 1950’s and is West Virginia’s southern most public fishing lake. It has a maximum depth of 35 feet and an average depth of 12 feet. A path around the entire lake provides bank fishing access. Boating is permitted and electric motors only are allowed. A wooden fishing platform is located at the upper end of the lake. The use of live minnows is prohibited and there is no camping.

Fishery |
Berwind Lake provides a warmwater fishery for largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. Trout are stocked once each month February through May. Adult channel catfish are stocked annually in June.
