Berkeley County
Poor House Pond

  Lake  Poor House Pond

  Acres  5

Directions  Poorhouse Pond is a 5-acre pond located on the Berkeley County Parks and Recreation Board’s Poor House Farm Park in Berkeley County, 5 miles west of Martinsburg. It is accessible via WV Route 15 and 45/8.

Description  The lake was built in 1999 with a maximum depth of 11 feet and an average depth of 4 feet. In addition to a good source of spring water, the pond also receives water via a pipe from the adjacent Tuscarora Creek. Parking is located near the lake and a path around the pond provides good bank fishing access. A wooden pier is wheelchair accessible, portable toilets are present, and a picnic shelter is located nearby. Boating, camping, night fishing, and the use of live minnows as bait are prohibited.

Fishery  Poorhouse Pond was stocked with fingerling largemouth bass and channel catfish and adult sunfish and crappie in 1999. Monthly trout stockings (Feb.-May) began at the pond in 2002. Some trout probably survive through the summer in the deeper spring-fed water of the pond. Triploid grass carp have been stocked for vegetation control.
