Ridenour Lake

  Lake  Ridenour Lake 

  Acres  27 

  Directions  Ridenour Lake is a 27-acre impoundment located on the City of Nitro’s Ridenour Park (43 acres) in Kanawha County, 1 mile east of Nitro and 16 miles west of Charleston. It is accessible from Nitro by County Route 25/1 and from Charleston via County Route 25 and County Route 25/1. 

  Description  The lake was built in 1970 with a maximum depth of 17 feet and an average depth of 8 feet. Picnic facilities, drinking water, and flush toilets are available. A trail surrounding the entire lake provides bank fishing access. Fishing is available all year from 9:00 a.m. until dark. Private boats, boat motors, and the use of live minnows as bait are prohibited. 

  Fishery  Ridenour Lake provides spring and winter fishing for stocked trout and a warmwater fishery for sunfish, crappie, largemouth bass, and channel catfish. Trout are stocked in January and March. Largemouth bass fishing is best in the early spring and late fall close to shore while crappie fishing is best in deeper water during spring. Fish attractors (logs and brush) have been placed in the lake and locations are designated with signs on shore. 

  National Forest  National Forest Stamp is not required 

  Boating  Rental boats only 

  Camping  No camping allowed 

  Spring Trout  Stocked once in January and once in March 

  Fall Trout  Does not receive Fall trout stocking 

  Live Minnows  Live minnows may not be used as bait 

  Night Fishing  Night fishing is allowed
